Neuropsychological Testing
Neuropsychological testing is the assessment of brain-behavior relationships.
It involves the use of specific neuropsychological and traditional psychological
testing instruments to assess cognition, behavior and emotional status. It is
useful for assistance in the diagnosis of a neurological condition, patient
care, rehabilitation and treatment planning. Neuropsychological testing
also provides information on the extent to which medications enhance or compromise
a patients mental efficiency.
Neuropsychological testing is often used for assessment of the effects of head
trauma. It is an essential part of legal case work in the identification of
head trauma severity, from mild to severe, and for establishing the implications
of brain injury on work and activities of daily living. Neuropsychological testing
is also useful in the diagnosis of dementia, and the effects of different medical
conditions or toxins on neuro-cognitive functioning.
